How to Repair a Word Error

1. Check the automated Microsoft Fix It Center (see Resources). Fix It lists various problems that have automated fixes for them. These are the most common Word problems. If this lists your error then click it, then click 'Fix it.' Follow the onscreen instructions to fix your Word error.
2. Click 'Start.' Type 'winword /r' without quotes, into the quick search box that appears. Press 'Enter.' This will open Microsoft Word and reset the registry values to their default. See if you experience the same Word errors after resetting the registry.
3. Click 'Start.' Type 'winword /m' and Press 'Enter.' This loads Word while disabling macros. If your Word crash doesn't happen after this, you know that the problem is with one of your macros.
4. Click 'Start.' Type 'winword /a' and press 'Enter.' This opens Word, while disabling add-ins. Again, if this prevents your Word error, you know it is an issue with an add-in.
5. Click 'Start,' then 'Control Panel,' then 'Programs and Features.' Right-click Word 2010, then click 'Change.' Click 'Repair,' then 'Continue.' Wait for the repair to occur. Restart your computer.
6. Reinstall Office 2010 if all else fails. Make sure you completely uninstall Word 2010 first (in the 'Programs and Features' control panel window, click 'Uninstall,' rather than 'Change').
