How to Troubleshoot a Window Opening Off Screen in Microsoft Word

1. Turn on your computer.
2. Right-click on your desktop background and select 'Personalize.' A new window will pop open with several options.
3. Click on 'Display Options.' This is usually located at the very bottom of the screen. Another new window will pop open. In the middle of this new window will be two boxes, labeled '1' and '2' respectively. These boxes represent your computer's monitors.
4. Click on the box labeled '2' in order to access settings for the second, phantom monitor on which windows is mistakenly displaying Microsoft Word files.
5. Click on the drop-down menu labeled 'Multiple displays.'
6. Select 'Show desktop on 1 only' from the list of options. If objects are displaying off screen, chances are this was set to 'Extend these displays' by default. With this setting changed, Windows will no longer extend your computer's images onto the nonexistent second monitor. The desktop will appear solely on your primary monitor, and if Windows mistakenly tries to display on a different screen, it will merely replicate the main screen. In other words, both screens will display the same Microsoft Word documents.
7. Click 'Apply' and then 'OK.'
8. Close the open 'Personalization' window.
