How to Insert an Anchor Point in Word 2007

1. Open Word and click the Office button, then click 'New' to start a new document.
2. Click the Office button again, then click the 'Options' button. Click the 'Display' link in the left navigation pane, then click the 'Anchor' check box. This tells Word to display object anchors. Note that Word will only display these anchors when you select the objects they're attached to.
3. Click 'OK' on all open dialog boxes to return to the document, then click the 'Insert' menu heading.
4. Click the 'Shapes' button, then click any of the shapes in the gallery that Word displays. For example, you can click a rectangle or smiley face. Word will turn your cursor into a crosshairs to indicate it's ready for you to draw the shape in the document.
5. Drag anywhere in the document to produce the shape you just selected.
6. Release the mouse. Word will display the shape and its anchor.
7. Click the 'Home' menu heading, then click the paragraph symbol in the 'Paragraph' panel. This tells Word to display all paragraph marks. By doing this, you can see which paragraph the object's anchor is linked to. All object anchors are linked to paragraphs.
8. Select the paragraph with the anchor at its left, then press 'Delete.' Word will delete the paragraph and the object. Press 'Control' and 'Z' simultaneously to undo the deletion. This step shows that deleting paragraphs deletes all objects connected to the paragraphs.
9. Press 'Enter' a few times to create more paragraphs in the document, then click the shape you inserted earlier to display its anchor. As before, Word will display which paragraph the shape is linked to.
10. Drag the anchor to another paragraph besides the one it's linked to. This will insert the anchor at the new paragraph you selected.
11. Select the paragraphs that don't have the anchor and press 'Delete.' Notice that the shape remains. It wasn't deleted because you didn't delete the paragraph it's linked to.
