How to Find Word Count on Microsoft Word 2007


Word Count For The Entire Document
1. Open Microsoft Word 2007 by clicking 'Start,' selecting 'All Programs' and choosing 'Microsoft Word.'
2. Click 'File' and 'Open.'
3. Navigate to and double-click the document's file name you want to open to view its word count.
4. Look at the status bar at the bottom of Word 2007's dialog box, and locate the wording 'Words:.' The value next to 'Words:' is the document's word count.
Word Count For A Specific Block of Text
5. Highlight a block of text, a sentence or page with your cursor or by clicking 'Edit' and 'Select All.'To highlight text in another section of text not close to the first section, press and hold the 'CTRL' key on your computer's keyboard, then highlight the second block of text.
6. Look at the value next to 'Words:' at the bottom of Word 2007's dialog box. The value next to 'Words:' is the word count for the highlighted text.
7. Click anywhere within the document to unhighlight the text.
Including Footnotes, Endnotes and Text Boxes in the Word Count
8. Click the 'Review' tab on Word 2007's main toolbar.
9. Click 'Proofing.'
10. Click 'Word Count.' The 'Word Count' dialog box will open.
11. Click the check box next to 'Include textboxes, footnotes and endnotes' to enable these words within the application's word count value.The updated word count value will appear next to 'Words' on the 'Word Count' dialog box as well as on the status bar next to 'Words:.'
12. Click 'Close.'
