How to Convert Word 2000 to Word 2007

1. Open Microsoft Word 2007. Once you start the program, you have a blank document on your screen. You need to open your Word 2000 file in order to convert it.
2. Click on the “Open Office” button in the top left corner of the window and click on “Open.” You will see the Open dialog window. You might need to scroll through your files to find your document to convert. Select the file you want to convert and click “Open” or double-click the file to open it. Once the file is on your screen, look in the file name. You should see the file name followed by the words Compatibility Mode.
3. Click the “Microsoft Office” button again and then click “Convert.” You will get another dialog box with a warning message about the file and what changes occur when you upgrade the file.
4. Click “OK” to convert your file to Word 2007. The conversion process takes a few seconds. Once converted, you will notice the words “Compatibility Mode” are erased from your file title, but the file still has the original file extension.
5. Click on the “Open Office” button again and select “Save.” After the file saves, you will notice the original file extension changed to the updated .docx file extension. Your original file is now converted to the newest version of Word and you can use all the enhanced Word features on the file.
