How to Make Flashcards with Microsoft Word 2007
1. Visit the Microsoft website and click the 'Office' tab. Select 'Office Templates' from the drop-down menu. Enter 'flash cards' into the search box and view the results. You can choose from a variety of different premade math and alphabet flash cards, or you can also choose blank ones to create your own. Click 'Download' to retrieve a flash card template. Download the answer template also, if applicable. The templates will open automatically in Microsoft Word after downloading.
2. Set the font and size, if you are creating your own flash cards, by clicking the 'Home' tab and choosing from the 'Font' area of the ribbon. If you are making flash cards for math or alphabet drilling, use size 48. If you are making flash cards with questions, make the type a smaller size, such as 24 or 26.
3. Click the 'Layout' tab to change the orientation of the text for making math or phonics flash cards, if you desire. Click the 'Alignment' section of the ribbon and click 'Text Direction' to make the text face left or right. Click the 'Align Center' button to make the text align in the center of each flash card.
4. Enter the text for each flash card on individual cards to make your flash cards.
5. Open another copy of the template and enter the identical font, size and layout settings. Enter the answer for each question in the first set on the corresponding flash card for this template.
6. Print out the first flash card template by clicking the 'Office' button in the upper left corner. Select 'Print Preview.' Make sure the flash cards look the way you desire and close 'Print Preview.' Click the 'Office' button a second time and select 'Print.' Place a sheet of card stock into the printer and click 'OK' to print the flash cards.
7. Reinsert the card stock into the printer to print the answers on the backside of the card stock. Make sure you understand the orientation of the card stock as you place it back into your printer -- printers vary in the positioning of paper for printing on the reverse side.
8. Print the second flash card template with the answers by following the same process.
9. Remove the card stock and cut apart the flash cards for use.
