How to Open a WPD File

Use Microsoft Word
1. Open Microsoft Word. For best results, use the most recent version of Microsoft Word.
2. Select "Open" from the File menu.
3. Select "All Files" or "All Readable Files" from the File Type drop-down menu and navigate to the location on your hard drive where the WPD file is stored. Its name should show up in the menu of available files that can be opened.
4. Select the file name and then click "Open." Microsoft Word will open the WPD file on the screen.
Use Open Office
5. Navigate to the Open Office website and download the free Open Office software to your computer.
6. Install Open Office and open the application called Open Office Writer.
7. Select "Open" from the File menu, locate your WordPerfect file and click "Open." It should open on the screen.
Use AbiWord
8. Navigate to the AbiSource website and download AbiWord, an open-source word processing program that runs on Windows and Macintosh operating systems. The software is free.
9. Install AbiWord, then open the application.
10. Select "Open" from the File menu, locate your WordPerfect file and click "Open." It should open on the screen.
Online Conversion Tools
11. Navigate web browser to a free online conversion tool website, such as Zamzar.
12. Click the "Browse" button to upload your file, then choose the "File Format" for your desired conversion.
13. Enter your email address and click the "Convert" button. Some companies email you the link to download the file when it's ready; others email you the file as an attachment.
