How to Adjust a Word Document to Create Date Stamps


1. Open your document in Microsoft Office Word 2007.
2. Place your cursor where you want to date stamp to appear. To add a date stamp to the footer, click on the 'Insert' tab, then select 'Footer' and 'Blank.'
3. Create a date stamp by clicking on the 'Insert' tab. Choose 'Quick Parts' and 'Field.' In the 'Field' dialog box, change 'Categories' to 'Date and Time.'
4. Select 'CreateDate' from 'Field Names' to show when the document was created, then choose field properties from the data format list. To create a data stamp showing when the document was printed, click on 'PrintDate.' To create one for when the document was saved, select 'SaveDate.'
5. Choose the type of calendar you want to use by ticking the appropriate option. Also check 'Preserve formatting during updates' for that option.
6. Modify the created date stamp by clicking on the 'Options' button. In the 'General Switch' tab, choose the options you want to add to the created stamp. Click on 'Add to Field.' The additional code will be added to the date stamp. Click 'OK' to accept the modifications, then 'OK' again to close the 'Field' dialog box. The date stamp will be added to your document.
7. Save your Word document by selecting the 'Office' button and clicking on 'Save.' To print your document, select the 'Office' button and click on 'Print.' The date stamp you've created will appear on your screen and in the printout.
