How to Create a Magazine With Word
1. Make sure your computer has the Microsoft Office suite, which includes Microsoft Word. Open the application on your computer and create a new document.
2.
Make a cover for your magazine. Consider uploading images related to the content you want to put in your magazine. To do this, click 'Insert,' scroll over 'Picture' and choose one of the options there. If you have a photo saved on your computer, upload it to your Word document by selecting 'From File' from the pop-down menu. If you want to add clip art, click the 'Clip Art' option. By using the 'Insert' function instead of just copying and pasting art, you create a much smaller file in case you want to email your magazine to others. To write over your image (this will help align your text better), double-click on the image you just placed in your document. On the Layout tab, choose the 'Behind Text' button. This will allow you to write over your image.
3.
Add a title to your magazine. Play around with the fonts option; choose one that's large enough to be seen from the top of your page. Also, play around with the margins on your page to allow for more room for your photos and text. This will allow you to add more text where needed.
4.
Start adding headlines for the content covered in your magazine. Depending on your image, you can add these headlines to the right or left of the image. Play around with the fonts, and choose one you like best. You can format the fonts by highlighting the text you've written, then right-clicking on the text and choosing 'Font' from the pop-down menu. Change the color or add effects to your text.
5. Work on the inside pages. Pick a font that you like, and make sure you also create a table of contents. To add pages to your magazine, click the 'Insert' button on the top menu and choose the 'Page Numbers' option. Choose where you want your page numbers to show up (top, bottom, left or right). Also, make sure the box next to the 'Show Number on First Page' command is not checked. This will keep a page number from showing up on your cover.
6.
Put the text of your story on another page and, again, play around with the fonts until you find one you like. Once you've added your text and headline, you might want to put a picture in. To frame your text around your photo, double-click the photo. On the Layout tab, choose the 'Square' effect. This will wrap your text around your photo and will allow you to move around the photo your page. To add a frame to your photo, double-click on it. On the Colors and Lines tab, click on the 'Color' radio button and choose which color you want your border to be. You can also play around with the weight of the border within the same box.
7. Follow much of the same steps to complete your magazine, formatting each page as you like. Once you've completed it, and it is satisfactory to your needs, print it out. It might be wise to use special paper that's thicker or glossier than normal printer paper. You can also make it so your magazine prints on both sides; follow the instructions in your printer setup. Once you're done printing, bind your magazine, and your done!
