How to Make File Folder Labels in Microsoft Word

1. Purchase a package of file folder labels from an office supply store. Check the package information to ensure that they are compatible with your type of printer (ink jet or laser).
2. Click "Labels," which appears in the Create group, on the Mailings tab.
3. Click "Options," leaving the Address box blank.
4. In the Options dialog box, select the type of printer you are using. Choose your label vendor from the provided list, if your vendor isn't listed, enter the exact dimensions of the label to ensure proper printing. Choose the product number from the label packaging. Click "OK."
5. Select "Print," and then "Full page of the same label." Then select "New Document."
6. Enter the label information in the new document that appears. Word provides a table that mimics the setup of the labels you entered in Step 4. To see the table more clearly, click "View Guidelines" in the Layout tab under Table Tools, then Table Group. Use the "Home" and "Page Layout" tabs to format the label's typeface, size and position.
7. Save the file using "File," then "Save As."
8. Load the labels into your printer. Print the labels using "File, "Print" or the Print icon.
