How to Troubleshoot an Office Word Cursor

1. Log on to your computer and test the performance of the cursor on programs other than Word. If your cursor is not working properly on the other programs it is important to check a few things before moving on. If you are using a wireless mouse, try changing the batteries in the mouse. When the batteries get weak, the cursor can behave erratically. Also click on the 'Start' button, open the 'Control Panel' and double-click 'Accessibility Options.' Click the 'Mouse' tab, click settings and adjust the cursor speed and performance as needed.
2. Open Microsoft Word and watch the performance of the cursor. If the cursor blinks or moves erratically, click on the 'View' menu and choose 'Headers and Footers' from the menu. Look for the 'Same as Previous' option.
3. Click on 'Link to Previous' if you see the 'Same as Previous' option and make sure the 'Same as Previous' option disappears. This option can cause the cursor to behave erratically.
4. Click the 'Switch Between Header and Footer' option on the toolbar and repeat the same steps to remove the 'Same as Previous' option.
