How to Turn on Page Numbering in a Header in Word 2007
1. Open Word 2007, click the 'File' tab and click 'Open.' Browse to a document to add page numbering onto and double-click the file, which opens in a new Word window.
2. Click the 'Insert' tab at the top of the screen and click the 'Header' button on the 'Header & Footer' section of the toolbar.
3. Select a header type and click it. Word 2007 automatically adds this header to the page and opens it. The rest of the page is disabled.
4. Click the 'Page Number' button on the 'Header & Footer' section on the left side of the toolbar. Select whether to add the page number to the top or bottom of the page and select a page numbering design from the submenu options.
5. Click a page numbering option and Word automatically adds it to the header. The number will automatically increment with each new page.
6. Change the page number's format, if desired, by highlighting the number. Click the 'Home' tab on the toolbar and change the font, size and color of the number. This change will repeat for all of the page numbers.
7. Click the red 'X' on the toolbar, 'Close Header & Footer,' to return to editing the main section of your Word document.
