How to Find Locked Fields in Word

1. Select the entire document by pushing 'Ctrl+A.' This selects all the text, fields and other objects in the document.
2. Right-click anywhere in the document to display the pop-up menu and choose 'Toggle Field Codes.' If you could already see the field codes prior to this step and they're now missing, go back to Step 1.
3. Open a search window by pushing 'Ctrl+F' and enter the characters '\!' in the search field. Microsoft Word uses the characters '\!' in the field codes to lock the field. Since these two characters are a fairly unlikely combination, chances are you will only find them in locked fields.
4. Click 'Find Next' in the search window. Assuming that you haven't used the characters '\!' anywhere else, Word should show you the location of one locked field.
5. Repeat Step 6 until you find all the locked fields.
