How to Use MS Word Footers for Chapter Names

1.
Place the cursor at the end of the first chapter. Enter a section break by going to the 'Insert' menu in Word 2003 or earlier and clicking 'Break.' In Word 2007, go to the 'Page Layout' tab and click 'Breaks.'
2.
Select 'Continuous' in the section break types of the 'Break' dialog. Insert section breaks at the end of every chapter.
3.
Open the Word document in which you want to insert chapter names into the footer. View the footer by clicking on 'Header and Footer' in the 'View' menu of Word 2003 or earlier, or by clicking 'Footer' in the 'Header & Footer' group of the 'Insert' tab in Word 2007.
4.
Place the cursor into the footer on a page in the first chapter. Type in the chapter name, and centering alignment if desired. Click the 'Show Next' button to go to the footer in the next section.
5.
Click the 'Link to Previous' button to break the link from the footer in the second chapter to the footer in the first. Type in the name of the second chapter. Repeat with the remaining chapters.
