How to Insert the Word Count in a Header for Word 2007


1. Open the Word document that requires the word count in the header and double-click inside the header field on the top of the page. The header must be opened for editing before you can insert a word count there.
2. Place your cursor in the header where you want to word count listed. Click "Insert" and look to the "Text" section. You can insert an object, signature or word count here.
3. Click "Quick Parts" to display a field in your document.
4. Select "Field" when the Quick Parts drop-down menu opens. The "Field" window will open.
5. Scroll through the field names located to the left of the window and select "NumWords." This field displays the number of words in your document.
6. Click "OK." The current word count for your document will show up in the header.
