How to Make a Mindmap on Microsoft Word

1. Go to the 'Insert' tab. Click on 'Shapes' and choose a circle. Double-click on a circle to insert it into the document. Use your mouse to drag the circle to the center of the page.
2. Click on 'Text Box' in the Insert menu. Select the type of text box you would like to use. Type your concept in the text box. You can adjust the size of it using the handles. Right-click on the text box and select 'Format Text Box.' Go to the 'Colors and Lines' tab and select 'No Color' in the Color drop-down menu. Click 'OK.' This will hide the borders of the text box. Drag the text box into the center of the circle. For example, we could use 'Internal Controls' as our topic.
3. Go to the 'Insert' tab. Click on 'Shapes' and double-click on a line to insert it into the document. Use your mouse to drag the line to one of the edges of the circle. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to add a related concept. Repeat these steps to add branches and attributes in completing your mind map. In our example, ideas related to internal controls could include the following: preventing employee theft, accounting system, documentation and segregation of duties.
