How to Obtain Office Word on a DVD
1. Visit an authorized Microsoft retailer. Many consumer electronics stores sell Microsoft-brand products. If you can get a hard copy at a nearby store, you save time waiting for the DVD to arrive in the mail.
2. Log on to Microsoft's website. You can purchase Microsoft Office Word directly from Microsoft. The site is geared toward downloadable copies of Word, but you can purchase a DVD with the right steps.
3. Click the 'Download' link to add Microsoft Word or Microsoft Office into your shopping cart. Though the link is labeled 'Download,' you'll have the option to add DVDs during checkout. If you buy the entire Office Suite, you save money versus buying each individual Office component. However, if you're only going to use Microsoft Word, you don't need this extra software.
4. Click to select the option 'Get a backup DVD delivered to you.' As of April 2011, the DVD copy of Word or Office adds an extra $15 charge to the product.
5. Proceed with the product checkout. Following your purchase, you will be prompted to download Word. If you have high-speed Internet, you can download the product and use it even before your discs arrive. If you don't have the capacity to download Word, wait for the DVDs to arrive in the mail and install Word using the discs.
