How to Change Footnotes Numbering in Word

1. Start Microsoft Word 2007 and open a document from your files that contains footnotes or is a document to which you would like to add footnotes with numbering different than the Word default.
2. Select the 'References' tab at the top of the Word 2007 screen to display the References ribbon. Locate the 'Footnotes' section of the References ribbon.
3. Click the small arrow icon on the bottom right hand corner to open the Footnote and Endnote dialog box.
4. Choose 'Footnotes' from the top.
5. Use the small arrow buttons or type in a value for the 'Start At' text box to set the first number you want to be used when numbering the footnotes for your document.
6. Select how you want to format the numbering from the 'Numbering' drop-down list. You can choose to number the footnotes continuously, where they renumber at the beginning of every section or where they renumber at the beginning of every page.
7. Click the 'Apply' button to apply the changes for the footnotes. Click the 'Insert' button to insert a footnote with the numbering immediately.
