How to Count Letters With MS Word
The Whole Document
1. Open your document in Microsoft Word.
2. Click the 'Review' tab located at the top of the Microsoft Word window.
3. Click 'Word Count,' which is in the group labeled 'Proofing.' A box will pop up that displays your document's statistics.
4. Locate the 'Characters (No Spaces)' line. The number directly to the right of the text is how many letters your document contains.
5. Click 'Close' to close the 'Word Count' box and return to your document.

6. Open your document in Microsoft Word.
7. Left-click in front of a section of text. Hold the left button down and drag your mouse to highlight the section you wish to check.
8. Click the 'Review' tab.
9. Click 'Word Count' in the 'Proofing' group to open the 'Word Count' box.
10. Locate the 'Characters (No Spaces)' line. The number to the right of the line indicates how many letters are in the selected text.
11. Click 'Close' to return to your document.
