How to Run Headers in Word 2007
Use Preformatted Headers
1. Open Microsoft Word and the document you want to add headers to, or you can use a new blank document. Click on the “Insert” tab and look for the Header & Footer section around the middle of the toolbar.
2. Click “Header” and a drop-down menu should appear with the headers you can select. There are many styles to choose from: simple title headers to more elaborate lines and graphic headers. Some Headers are for odd and even pages, so you can have different formats on separate pages. This is often used for chapters in a book or long document. You can add and remove headers as often as you like without harming your document. For this exercise, click on “Alphabet,” a simple title header.
3. Type in your document “title.” Your header will now appear on every page.
4. Exit the Header by clicking on the “Close Header and Footer” button, or you can double-click your document.

5. Open Microsoft Word and the document you want to add headers to, or you can use a new blank document. Click on the “Insert” tab and look for the Header & Footer section around the middle of the toolbar.Click “Header” and a drop-down menu should appear with the headers you can select.
6. Click on the “Blank” header selection. Once you have selected a header, your document will gray out, and the header-and-footer toolbar appears. You will find your cursor in the words “text” on the screen.
7. Type “your name.” Once you have some text, you can format it any way you would like by going to the Home tab and using the font or paragraph tools. You can have your name in the center or on the left or right. To add a page number to your blank header means going back to the Header &Footer toolbar.
8. Select “Header & Footer” tools in the top of the toolbar section. Press “end” to go the end of your name. Press “enter” to get a new line of text. In the tools menu toward the left, click on “Page Number” and select “Current Position.” This brings up a selection of page number choices for you to select including plain number.
9. Click on “Plain number,” and your page number should appear. If you have changed the font in your name, the font for the page number should be the same. Exit the Header by clicking on the “Close Header and Footer” button, or you can double-click your document.
