How to Create a Lined Document in Word


1. Open a blank Word document. In Word 2000 or 2003, go to the 'File' menu, click on 'Page Setup' and go to the 'Margins' tab. In Word 2007 or 2010, go to the 'Page Layout' tab, click on 'Margins' and select 'Custom Margins.' Change the top margin to '1.5' and the bottom, left and right margins to '1.3.' Click 'OK.'
2. Insert a table. In Word 2000 or 2003, go to the 'Table' menu, point to 'Insert' and click 'Table.' In Word 2007 or 2010, go to the 'Insert' tab, click on 'Table' and select 'Insert Table.' The 'Insert Table' dialog box will open. Change the number of columns to '2.' Change the number of rows to '32.' Click 'Autofit to Window' and then click 'OK.'
3. Click the 'Select' handle at the top left side of the table to select the entire table. Right-click the table and select 'Borders and Shading.' The 'Borders and Shading' dialog box will open. Click the left and right vertical line buttons in the 'Preview' section to remove the lines on the outer borders of the table. Click 'OK.'
4. Right-click the table again and select 'Table Properties.' Select the 'Specify Height' check box. Enter '0.3125' into the 'Specify Height' box. Select 'Exactly' in the 'Row Height Is' box. Click 'OK.'
5. Select the first column in the table. Right-click and select 'Table Properties.' Go to the 'Column' tab. Change the 'Preferred Width' number to '0.6' and select 'Inches' in the 'Measure With' box. Click 'OK.'
6. Save and print your lined Word document.
