How to Type Math Symbols in Microsoft Word 2007
Math AutoCorrect
1. Select the Microsoft Office button at the top left of the screen, then select 'Word Options' and 'Proofing.' Press the 'AutoCorrect' button and make the 'Math AutoCorrect' tab the active tab.
2. Place a check mark in the 'Use Math AutoCorrect Options outside of math regions' to ensure you can type individual math symbols as well as create equations.
3. Scroll through the list of preset corrections and notice the format used to type in math symbols. Each math symbol begins with a '\' delimiting character and then a text description. For example, the symbol '\div' will produce a division symbol.
4. Select each math symbol you want to use and click 'OK' to add it to the Math AutoCorrect list.
5. Insert the math symbol in your Word 2007 document by entering the delimiting character followed by the text description and the pressing the spacebar.

6. Place your cursor where you want to add the math symbol in your Word 2007 document.
7. Select the 'Insert' main menu tab, then select the arrow beneath 'Symbol' in the 'Symbols.' Select 'More Symbols' to open a new 'Symbols' window and make the 'Symbols' tab the active tab.
8. Click the 'Subset' drop-down box to display a list of symbol types such as 'Mathematical Operators,' 'Number Forms' or 'Superscripts and Subscripts.' Select the math symbol you want to add, then select 'Insert' to add it to your document.
