How to Number Equations in Word 2007
Left Equation Numbering
1. Open Word and a blank document. Create equations by clicking the 'Insert' tab, and then clicking 'Equation' in the 'Symbols' group.
2. Highlight the equations and click the 'Home' tab.
3. Click 'Numbering' in the 'Paragraph Numbering' group to number equations on the left side. The equations will move to the left side of the page with the number.

4. Open Word and a blank document. Click on the 'Insert' tab, and then 'Table' in the 'Tables' group. In the 'Table' dropdown box, highlight a three column by one row table to insert a table in the document.Click in the 'Right Cell' of the table. Click on the 'Table Tools' tab which appears in the Ribbon above the regular tabs. Click on the 'Layout' tab and click the 'Cell Size' dialog box launcher located in the right corner of the 'Cell Size' group.
5. Click the 'Table' tab in the 'Table Properties' dialog box. Click the 'Preferred Width' check box and type in '100' and click 'Percent' in the 'Measure' field. Click on the 'Cell' tab in the dialog box. Click the 'Center Alignment' thumbnail. Click on the 'Column' tab in the dialog box. Set the preferred width to '15' and select 'Percent' in the 'Measure' field. Click the 'Previous Column' button. Set the preferred width to '70' and the measure to 'Percent.' Click the 'Previous Column' button again. Set the preferred width to '15' and the measure to 'Percent.' Click 'OK' to set the table properties.
6. Highlight the table. Click on the 'Table Tools' tab, then click the 'Design' tab. Click on the 'Borders' menu and select 'No Borders' from the menu.
7. Click in the 'Right Cell' of the table to add numbering. Click the 'Home' tab and then click on the 'Multilevel List' button in the 'Paragraph' group. Click on 'Define New Multilevel List' from the menu. In the 'Enter Formatting for Number' field, type in the 'Number Formatting' you want. Click '2' in the 'Click Level to Modify' field to modify a second level. Click 'OK.'
8. Click in the 'Middle Table Cell,' and then click 'Insert.' Click in the 'Symbols' group. Click on 'Insert New Equation' to make a placeholder to insert equations. Select the 'Table' to make it a quick part. Click on 'Insert,' and then on 'Equation.' Click on 'Save Selection to Equation Gallery' from the dropdown menu. Type in a 'Name' in the 'Name' field for the quick part. Click 'OK.'
