Using Microsoft Word to Make a Webpage
Making a Webpage
1. Open a blank document in Word. Click on 'View' and then click the 'Web Layout' button in the Document Views group.
2. Type in text for the webpage. Use text styles located in the 'Home' tab to add titles and headings for the webpage. Styles translate easily into HTML and make the code less bloated.
3. Add graphics by clicking on the 'Insert' tab and then clicking 'Picture.' Select the file name and click 'Insert' to add it to the webpage. Give the graphic an alternative text meaning by right-clicking on the picture and selecting 'Size' from the menu. Click the 'Alt' tab and then type in a description of the graphic. Click 'Close' to save the text.
4. Insert hyperlinks by typing the text for the link and then highlighting the text. Click on the 'Insert' tab and click 'Hyperlink' in the Links group. In the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, you can type the webpage address in the 'Address' field. You can also copy and paste an address by clicking on the 'Browse the Web' button (it has a world with a magnifying glass on it) to search the web. Click 'OK' when you are finished.
5. Save the webpage by clicking on the 'Microsoft Office' button and clicking 'Save.' Give the file a name in the 'File Name' field. Click on the 'Save File as Type' field and save the file as a 'Web Page, Filtered.' You can also save the file as just a webpage, but you will be inserting a bunch of extraneous codes into the webpage. Choosing 'Web Page, Filtered' makes the file smaller and easier to read.
Using Templates
6. Open Word and then click on the 'Microsoft Office' button. Click on 'New.' In the New Document dialog box, click on 'More Templates.' In the middle task pane, click on 'Web Pages' to bring up thumbnails of pre-formatted webpages.
7. Select the template you would like to modify by double-clicking on the thumbnail.
8. Change text by clicking on the text and typing in your information. Click on pictures to either change or modify them.
9. Save the document by clicking on the 'Microsoft Office' button and clicking on 'Save.' Give the file a name and then, in the 'Save File as Type' field, select 'Web Page, Filtered.'
