How to Use Alternatives to Microsoft Word 2007


1. Click the circular 'Windows' orb logo in the bottom-left corner of the desktop (also known as the 'Start' button). Type 'Wkswp.exe' in the search box at the bottom of the 'Start' menu. Press 'Enter' to open the 'Microsoft Works Word Processor' application. Begin typing your document. Use the menu options across the top of the the application to edit and format the document. Click the 'File' menu to save and print out the document.
2. Navigate to Oracle's 'Open Office' Home page (www.openoffice.org). Download and install the 'Open Office' suite of productivity applications, which includes a word processor. Access the search box on the 'Start' menu, after installation is complete. Type 'OpenOffice' (one word) in the search box at the bottom of the 'Start' menu. Press 'Enter' to open a window. Click 'Text Document,' which opens the word processor called 'Writer.' Begin typing a document. Use the menu options at the top of the application. Use 'File' to save and print your document.
3. Bring up Google's 'Google Docs' Home page (docs.google.com). Sign in with your email address and password (or create a new login using the 'Create An Account Now' link). Click the 'Create New' button on the left side of the Web page. Choose 'Document' from the menu. Begin typing your document. Use the menu options across the top of the 'Docs' Web page to edit and format the document. Click the 'File' menu option within the Web page (not at the top of the browser) to save and print the document.
