How to Format Outlines in Word 2007

1. Click the 'Office Button' and 'Open' in Word 2007. A dialog box appears. Find and double-click the document you want to format.
2. Go to the 'View' tab and 'Document Views' group. Click 'Outline' to make the outline visible. Select the 'Outlining' tab and go to the 'Outline Tools' group.
3. Highlight any text you want to convert into a main heading. Select 'Level 1' from the 'Outline Level' drop-down list or click the 'Promote to Heading 1' button (double left arrow). To move the text up a level, click the 'Promote' button (single left arrow).
4. Highlight a heading to change it into a subheading. Select its new level from the 'Outline Level' drop-down list in the 'Outline Tools' group. To move it down a level, click the 'Demote' button (single right arrow). To convert it into body text, click the 'Demote to Body Text' button (double right arrow).
5. Double-click the plus (+) sign beside a heading to expand or collapse its contents. To move a heading and its contents above another heading, place your cursor on the line containing the heading and click the 'Move Up' button (up arrow) in the 'Outline Tools' group. To move it below another heading, click the 'Move Down' button (down arrow). You can also drag and drop the heading to its new location.
6. Click any subheadings or body text you want to move. Use the 'Move Up' or 'Move Down' buttons to move them to another location. To drag the text below another heading, expand the heading where the text will go. Then highlight the text you want to move and drag it to its new location.
