How to Write Math Equations in MS Word


Microsoft Word 2003
1. Open the Microsoft Word 2003 file on your computer that you want to write an equation in. Click in the document where you want the equation to be inserted.
2. Click on the “Insert” option from the top toolbar menu and then click on the “Object” option. Click on the “Create New” tab.
3. Click on the “Microsoft Equation 3.0” option from the “Object type” box and then click on the “OK” button.
4. Write your equation in the Equation box and select any symbols from the Equation toolbar to help you complete your equation. Once your equation is complete, you can press the “Enter” key to view the solution.
5. Click on the Word document to exit out of the Equation Editor dialog box. The equation will then appear in the document.
Microsoft Word 2007
6. Open the Microsoft Word 2007 file on your computer that you want to insert an equation into and then click in the document where you want the equation to appear.
7. Click on the “Insert” tab and then click on the arrow below the “Equation” field in the “Symbols” group.
8. Click on the “Insert New Equation” option and then begin to type your equation within your document.
9. Click on the arrow next to the “Symbol” option to insert any symbols for your equation. Press the “Enter” key on your keyboard after writing the equation to view the solution.
