How to Make a Nice Separation Line on Microsoft Word

1. Open the Word document you want to add a line to. Place your cursor at the point where you want to insert the line.
2. Click the 'Insert' tab on the ribbon, then click 'Shapes.' Select a line -- usually, the first line style under 'Lines.' A large black cross appears.
3. Hold down the 'Shift' key while clicking and dragging the line across the page. This will create a horizontal line. Your line should have two round handles on each end, and the Format tab should appear on the ribbon.
4. Click and drag the handles to extend or contract the line. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to nudge the line left or right or up or down to align it with your text.
5. Click inside 'Shape Styles' to select a different color or weight for your line. Word offers some lines with shadows so that you can create a 3-D look.
