How to Type Japanese Characters for Microsoft Office Word 2007


Typing Japanese Characters Using Windows Vista
1. Click 'Start,' then navigate to the 'Control Panel.' Double-click 'Regional and Language Options,' then click the 'Keyboard and Languages' tab.
2. Click the 'Change keyboards' button. A new window pop ups allowing you to add, remove or edit an input language. Click the 'Add' button.
3. Scroll through the list of languages until you reach the Japanese option. Click the plus sign next to 'Japanese,' then click the plus sign again next to 'Keyboard.' Check the 'Japanese' and 'Microsoft IME' options, then click 'OK.' The Japanese keyboard should appear underneath the 'Installed Services' box. Click 'OK.'
4. Open Microsoft Office Word 2007. Open a new document.
5. Click the IME icon on your taskbar. The IME icon will look different depending on the language in which you are typing. If it is English, it will have the initials EN.
6. Select Japanese from the IME toolbar. Change the input mode (it should look like an 'A' by default) to hiragana. Start typing in Japanese.

7. Press 'Start' and navigate to the 'Control Panel.' Double-click 'Regional and Language Options.' Click the 'Languages' tab.
8. Check the 'Install files for East Asian Languages' box. Click the 'Details' button. A new window appears.
9. Click the 'Add' button under the 'Installed Services' section. Change the input language to Japanese, then change the keyboard layout to 'Microsoft IME Standard 2002 ver 8.1.' Click 'OK.' The Japanese keyboard with Microsoft IME capability should appear under 'Installed Services.' Click 'OK.'
10. Open Microsoft Office Word 2007. Open a new document. Click on the IME icon. If your default input language is English, it will look like 'EN.'
11. Change the input language to Japanese. Change the input mode from alphanumeric (it will look like an 'A') to hiragana. Start typing in Japanese.
