How to Reset MS Word Settings
1. Close out every Microsoft Office window you have open, whether it is Word or another application, such as Excel or Access. These programs all share registry keys and code libraries, which means the changes you will make affect them as well.
2. Click the Windows 'Start' button on your desktop and type 'Regedit' in the search box. Click on the Regedit program when it appears in the results list. Navigate the tree-structure menu on the left-hand side of the Regedit window to find the registry key you need to delete. The location of the registry keys for Word 2010 is 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word.'
3. Expand the 'Word' folder and click on the 'Data' folder to reveal the 'Settings and Toolbar' registry keys. Delete the 'Settings' key to delete all settings in your copy of Word. You can also delete other keys for the Wizards, Common MS Office Settings and Shared Tools. When finished, close out of the Regedit utility and start Word. Because there are missing keys in the registry, Word's setup will start as if you are using Word for the first time. The setup will rebuild the missing keys and start Word fresh.
