How to Fix a Microsoft Word 2007 Template

1. Click the 'Microsoft Office' button and then click 'Open.' In the 'Open' dialog box, select Templates as the file type, and change the folder to the location where you have saved the template. Select the template file and click the 'Open' button to open the file. As an example of this process, consider that you might want to modify the default margins in the Normal.dotm file (the default Word template). This file is found in the C:\Users\yourUser\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates folder. The same series of steps applies to any Word template.
2. Make the modifications to the template file necessary to fix the problem you are encountering. Continuing the example, with the template file open, click the 'Page Layout' tab on the Ribbon menu and click the small arrow below the 'Margins' option. Select the 'Moderate' margins option from the panel.
3. Press 'Crtl'+'S' to save the changes in the template file.
