How to Recover a Saved
Microsoft Office 2003 or Earlier
1. Launch Microsoft Word. Click on the Start button and select "All Programs." Scroll up to find the "Microsoft Office 2003" folder. Click on the folder to find the shortcut for Microsoft Word shortcut. Click on the shortcut.
2. Click on "File" and select "Open." Click on the drop-down menu "Files of Type:" and select "All Files (*.*)"
3. Search for a document with a ".wbk" extension. This is your backup copy. Click to open the original contents of the file. If you can't find the document using this method, go to Step 4.
4. Hit the Start button. If you use Windows XP or an earlier operating system, click on "Search" and select "For Files or Folders." Type "*.asd" and hit "Search Now" under "My Computer." If you use Windows Vista or later, hit the Start button to get the "Start Search" box. Type ".asd" and press "Enter."
5. Look for the Word document in the search list. You can sort by date by simply clicking on "Date Modified."

6. Launch Microsoft Word. Click on the Start button and select "All Programs." Scroll up to find the "Microsoft Office 2007" folder. Click on the folder to find the shortcut for Microsoft Word shortcut. Click on the shortcut.
7. Click on the Microsoft Office logo at the top left corner of your screen. Select "Open."
8. Select "All Files" in the "Files of type" drop-down menu. Search for a document with a ".wbk" extension. This is your backup copy. Click to open the original contents of the file. If you can't find the document using this method, go to Step 4.
