How to Make Word Display Two Windows
Split
1. For both versions, open the Word document that you want to display in two separate windows.
2. Word 97-2003: On the toolbar at the top of the document, click on 'Window.'Word 2007: Go to the toolbar and click on the 'View' tab.
3. Word 97-2003: Click on 'Split' on the drop-down box. You will see a horizontal line attached to your cursor.Word 2007: Click on the 'Split' icon on the View toolbar. You will see a horizontal line attached to your cursor.
4. For both versions, position the horizontal line where you would like your Word document split. Now you have the one Word document split into two windows.
Compare Side by Side
5. For both versions, open both Word documents that you want to display in two windows.
6. Word 97-2003: On the toolbar at the top of the document, click on 'Window.'Word 2007: Go to the toolbar and click on the 'View' tab.
7. Word 97-2003: Click on 'Compare Side by Side With [name of your other document].' Your two documents are now displayed in two windows.Word 2007: Click on 'Arrange All.' Your two documents are now displayed in two windows.
8. The two windows will automatically display one on top of the other. To have them display side by side, do the following:Word 97-2003: Note the small dialogue box that appeared after your documents opened in two windows. Click on the icon that shows two pages side by side. To go back to displaying them one on top of the other, click 'Windows' on the toolbar and then select 'Arrange All.'Word 2007: Click on 'View Side by Side.' To go back to displaying them one on top of the other, click 'View Side by Side' again.
