How to Convert PDF Files to Word in OpenOffice 3.2
Download Oracle PDF Import Extension
1. Open OpenOffice and click on 'Tools' and then 'Extension Manager.' If you do not have the Oracle PDF Import Extension, click 'Get more Extensions Online' in the new window and an Internet browser window will appear. Search for 'PDF import.' The first option on the page should be 'Oracle PDF Import Extension.' Click on that name and read through the limitations listed on the next screen to make sure your PDF fits within the guidelines provided by Oracle. For example, files over 20 pages might cause some problems, or complex graphics will not convert.
2. Find your computer's platform (Windows, Mac) close to the bottom of the page and click 'Get it!'
3. Download the extension and double-click the file name when the download is complete. OpenOffice will open its Extension Manager and a window will appear. Click 'OK' to proceed with the installation. Scroll down to read the License Agreement and click 'Accept.'
4. Close the Extension Manager and return to the OpenOffice main screen where you can choose to open a text document, drawing, etc.

5. Choose 'File' at the top of the screen and click 'Open.' Navigate to the PDF you want to convert and click 'Open.' It will take a few seconds for OpenOffice to convert the file. Once the conversion is complete, the file will open in 'Draw.' If the PDF is multiple pages, you must click on each separate page in the left window in order to view the page.
6. Go to 'File' and click 'Save As' to save the file as an OpenOffice Draw file in ODG format. Then, select all the pages in the left window so that each is surrounded by a blue square. Choose 'Edit' and 'Copy' to copy all of the pages.
7. Click 'File' and 'New' and choose 'Text document.' A new OpenOffice Writer window will appear. Choose 'Edit' and 'Paste.' The pages will appear in the new document. To save the document as an OpenOffice Writer document, choose 'File' and 'Save.'
