How to Update Fields in Microsoft Word


1. Unlock fields if they are locked to allow them to be updated. Click on the field you want to unlock. Press the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+Shift+F11."
2. Click on the field you want to update.
3. Press the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+A" to select the entire document if you want to update all of the fields in a document simultaneously.
4. Press the "F9" key at the top of the keyboard to update the selected field or fields.
5. Update fields prior to printing. Go to the "Tools" menu in Word 2003 and select "Options." Go to the "Print" tab. Select the "Update Fields" check box. Click the "Office Button" in Word 2007 and select "Word Options." Click "Display" in the left pane. Select "Update Fields Before Printing" and click "OK." Click the "File" tab in Word 2010 and select "Options." Select "Update Fields Before Printing" and click "OK."
