How to Create a Letterhead With Protected Fields in Microsoft Word

1. Open a New Document sidebar in Microsoft Office Word 2003. Click the 'File' link in the menu bar, then click 'New' in the context menu. The New Document sidebar will open on the right-hand side of the Word window.
2. Click 'Templates on Office Online' in the Templates section of the sidebar. This opens your web browser to the Microsoft Office Template Categories Web page.
3. Select a letterhead template. Click the 'Letterhead' link under 'Stationery' in the list of templates. This opens the Letterhead page. Click to select a template such as 'Business letterhead stationery (Simple design).' This opens the page for the template you selected.
4. Download the template. Click the 'Download' button on the letterhead template page. Review the Microsoft Service Agreement, then click the 'Accept' button to accept it. Follow the steps in your browser's download process to download the template. The template will open automatically after it has downloaded.
5. Open the Forms toolbar. Right-click a blank area of the menu bar in the Word window and check the 'Forms' link.
6. Fill in the template with your company's information. Click to select the 'Company Name Here' text box in your template and type the name of your company, replacing the generic text. Click to select text boxes for address, phone, email and other contact information as available in your template and type your company's information to replace the generic information.
7. Insert your company's logo, if desired. Click to select the 'Your Logo Here' picture box. Press the 'Delete' button to delete the picture box if you don't have a company logo. If you do have a company logo, click 'Insert' in the Word menu bar, click 'Picture' in the drop-down menu, then click the 'From File' icon in the sub-menu. This opens the Insert Picture window. Navigate to the logo in the Insert Picture window. Click to select your logo, then click the 'Insert' button.
8. Re-size your logo if needed. Click to select your logo, press and hold the Shift key, then click and drag the edge of the picture to re-size it.
9. Click the 'Lock' icon in the Forms toolbar when you've finished changing the template. This locks the fields in your letterhead so they can no longer be changed. Click the 'File' link in the menu bar, then click 'Save.' Follow the Save prompts to save your letterhead template and complete the process.
