How to Insert Table Row Numbers in a Word Table
1. Go to the table you want to format in Microsoft Word.
2. Highlight the row or rows you want to number.
3. Go to the 'Home' tab and 'Paragraph' group. Click the 'Numbering' button. Select the number format you want to use from the 'Numbering Library.'
4. Select 'Define New Number Format' to use a format not available in the Numbering Library. The 'Define New Number Format' dialog box opens.
5. Click 'OK' to accept the existing format within the dialog box or customize it to your taste. To change the numbering, pick a style from the 'Number style' drop-down list. To change the alignment, select 'Left,' 'Centered' or 'Right' from the 'Alignment' drop-down list. Press 'OK' to apply the settings. The dialog box closes. You are returned to your page, and numbering is applied to the selected row(s).
