How to Type Spanish in Microsoft Word 2007
Keyboard Shortcuts
1. Start typing a word you need to modify. For example: 'mañana.'
2. Stop just before the first letter that you need to modify. Example: m-a.
3. Hold down the 'CTRL' and 'Shift' keys while pressing the tilde (~). Type the letter 'n' and the tilde should appear over the 'n' in the 'mañana.'
4. Make an accent over a letter, such as 'Bogotá,' by pressing 'CTRL' and the apostrophe (') before typing the desired letter. Do not press Shift.

5. Start typing word you need to modify. For example: 'versión'
6. Stop just before the first letter that you need to modify. Example: v-e-r-s-i.
7. Leave the cursor in place and click on 'Insert' then 'Symbol' and 'More Symbols.' Select the language from the drop-down menu; for Spanish, select 'Latin Extended-A.' Single-click on the ó and click 'Insert.'
8. Close the symbol screen and continue typing the word.

9. Click the 'Microsoft Office' button and select 'Word Options.' Select 'Proofing' from the left pane and put a check mark in 'Check Spelling as You Type.' Close out of 'Word Options.'
10. Go to the 'Review' tab and click 'Set Language' in the 'Proofing' group. The 'Set Language' icon looks like a green ball with a red check mark. Scroll down and select the version of Spanish you want --- the options are categorized by country --- and click OK.
11. Type a Spanish word without special characters, such as 'Espanol.'
12. Right-click on the word to bring up a list of alternative spellings. Select the word with the appropriate symbol --- 'Español.'
