How to Edit Pictures in Word 2007

1. Open the Word document that contains your picture.
2. Click the picture you plan to edit. This adds a 'Picture Tools' option to the 'Format' tab. It appears as a new, red tab on the Word ribbon.
3. Click the 'Format' tab if it isn't automatically selected. This opens a variety of editing options for your picture, including the ability to adjust the brightness or contrast, to crop the picture or to re-size it.
Cropping
4. Click the picture. This opens the 'Picture Tools' menu on the Microsoft Word 2007 ribbon. Find the 'Size' group.
5. Click 'Crop.' This places what Microsoft calls 'cropping handles' on each of the picture's four corners and on the picture's left and right sides.
6. Click a cropping handle. Drag it until the portion of the picture you wish to crop is de-selected.
7. Release the mouse button to finish cropping the picture.
Compress Images
8. Click the picture to open the 'Picture Tools' menu. Find the 'Adjust' group.
9. Click 'Compress Pictures.' Click the box beside 'Apply to Selected Pictures Only' if you only want to compress the selected picture.
10. Click 'Options' to open the 'Compression Settings' dialog window.
11. Click 'Automatically Perform Basic Compression on Save.'
12. Click 'OK.'
Changing Pixel Size
13. Click the picture. The 'Picture Tools' menu will open. Find the 'Adjust' group.
14. Click 'Compress Pictures.' Click 'Apply to Selected Pictures Only' if you're only changing the resolution of the selected picture.
15. Click 'Options.'
16. Click 'Print,' 'Screen' or 'Email.' The 'Email' setting saves at 96 pixels-per-inch. This is the highest compression setting. The 'Screen' option saves as 150 pixels-per-inch and is the medium compression setting. 'Print' saves at 220 pixels-per-inch. This creates a better quality picture but does not compress the picture as much as the other options.
17. Click 'OK.'
