How to Modify Microsoft Word 2007 Auto Formatting

AutoFormat in Word Options
1. Open Word and a blank document. Click on the 'Microsoft Office' button, and then click 'Word Options' in the bottom right corner of the menu.
2. Click 'Proofing' in the left task pane. Click the 'AutoCorrect Options' button in the main task pane to bring up the AutoCorrect dialog box. Click on the 'AutoFormat as You Type' tab in the dialog box. Check marks appear in AutoFormat options that are turned on such as 'Automatic Bulleted Lists' or 'Formatting Beginning of List Item Like the One Before It.' If there is no check, that option is turned off. To turn on or off an AutoFormat option, click the check box before the option.
3. Click on the 'AutoFormat' tab in the AutoCorrect dialog box to make changes for formatting, such as replacing straight quotes with smart quotes or changing fractions with a character. Like AutoFormat as You Type, you make changes to the check boxes before the option in the dialog box. When you are finished modifying the AutoFormat tab sections, click 'OK.' Click 'OK' again to exit the Word Options task pane.
Add AutoFormat to Quick Access Toolbar
4. Open Word. Click on the 'Microsoft Office' button, and click 'Word Options' in the menu.
5. Click 'Customize' in the left task pane. In the 'Choose Commands From' field in the middle task pane, click on 'All Commands.'
6. Scroll and select 'AutoFormat' and click 'Add' to add the button to the Quick Access toolbar. Click 'OK.' The Quick Access toolbar is located to the right of the Microsoft Office button and above the Home tab. You can find other Quick Access buttons there such as 'Save' and 'Redo.' You can add additional buttons to the Quick Access toolbar for the 'AutoFormat as You Type,' 'AutoFormat Now' and 'AutoFormat Options' dialog boxes in the same way.
