How to Put a Picture Behind the Print in a Word Document

1. Open the document you want to add a picture to and click "Page Layout" from the toolbar at the top of the page. You can change the theme of a document, modify the page setup and add a watermark here.
2. Look to the "Page Background" section of the ribbon and click "Watermark." You can choose from different watermark options here, including the option to put a picture behind text.
3. Select "Custom Watermark" when the watermark options open if you are using Word 2010. Select "Printed Watermark" if you are using Word 2007.
4. Check the box next to "Picture Watermark" and click "Select Picture" to choose a picture to apply behind the text of your document. The "Insert Picture" window will open.
5. Choose the picture you want to insert behind the print. After you choose a picture, click "Insert." The "Insert Picture" window will close, and you can set the watermark settings in the "Printed Watermark" window.
6. Choose how small or large you want the picture to be under "Scale." For example, you can scale the picture from 50 percent to 500 percent of the picture's original size.
7. Check the box next to "Washout" to fade the image. You may want to do this so the text on your document is easier to read.
8. Click "OK" to apply the picture behind the text in your document.
