How to Make a Poster With Microsoft Word

1. Set the document size to the dimensions you want to use for printing your poster. The maximum size for a page in Word is 22 X 22 inches. Click 'Page Layout'>'Size' from the Ribbon menu to display the pre-set sizes for Word pages. Choose 'More Sizes...' to enter custom settings.
2. Set the margins that define the text and image area by clicking 'Page Layout'>'Margins' and choosing one of the pre-set margin measurements. If none of these are appropriate, choose 'Custom Margins' and enter your own measurements. Remember that most printers do not print all the way to the edge of a page. Your text and images will need to be inside of the printer margins or you will risk cutting off the edges of your message.
3. Add any images to the poster, positioning them so that there is room for the text you want to add. You may copy-and-paste images, or load them from your disk drive by clicking 'Insert'>'Picture' from the Ribbon menu. When a picture is inserted into the document and it is active (selected), a special context tab named 'Format' appears containing the image formatting tools. Use the functions to position the image and set the manner in which text flows around or over it. For example, if your text is to be written over the top of the image, select 'Wrap Text'>'Behind Text' from the Ribbon menu. Be cautious when stretching an image to fill the space on your poster. Small images that are stretched too much become pixelated and distorted.
4. Add your text to the poster, formatting and arranging it so that your message is clearly visible. This may involve manipulating the font size and color to make your text stand out on the paper.
5. Print the poster on your local printer, or save the file for reproduction at a commercial printer.
