How to Become Certified in Microsoft Word 2007

1. Register for the Word 2007 MCAS exam online via Certiport.com (see Resources). Certiport administers all the Microsoft Business Certification exams. Once you log in, select a test center where you can take the exam. The exam number you need to register for is Exam 77-601. Schedule the test at a nearby location on a day you're available to take it.
2. Prepare for the exam. You can study on your own, purchase a Microsoft Word 2007 study guide or take an outside preparation course. Microsoft recommends courses from Wiley.com and Certiprep. See Resources for a collection of preparation materials you can use. Give yourself enough time to prepare before test day.
3. Go to the test center and take the exam. Most exams take about 90 minutes. Your exam results will be displayed on the computer screen after you take the exam. If you pass, you'll receive the official certificate in two to three weeks. You'll also receive access to a certification logo you can use on your resume.
