How to Configure the Overstrike in Word 2007

Change Options
1. Click on the 'Office' orb at the top left of the Microsoft Word window. Choose 'Word Options.'
2. Choose 'Advanced,' in the left-hand pane.
3. Place a checkmark in the box labeled 'Use the Insert key to control overtype mode.' Enabled, this feature lets you toggle between Insert mode and Overtype mode by pressing the 'Insert' key on your keyboard.
4. Place a checkmark in the box labeled 'Use overtype mode,' if you want that mode enabled by default in Word.
Use the Status Bar
5. Right-click on a blank area of the status bar, which runs along the bottom of the window in Word.
6. Click on the entry marked 'Overtype.' This will cause Word to display the Insert/Overtype element on the status bar.
7. Click once on the Insert/Overype element, which displays either 'Insert' or 'Overtype,' depending on which mode is active, to switch modes. In some installations, the word will not change until you position your cursor in the document and begin typing.
