How to Make a Star on Microsoft Word

1. Click where you want to make the star in the document.
2. Click the 'Insert' tab on the ribbon.
3. Click the 'Symbol' button on the ribbon, at the far right end, to open the drop-down Symbol menu.
4. Click 'More Symbols...' at the bottom of the drop-down menu to open the pop-up Symbol dialog box.
5. Click the drop-down field labeled 'Font,' near the top of the dialog box, then select 'Wingdings' from the drop-down menu.
6. Type '171' into the 'Character Code' field near the bottom of the dialog box if you want a simple, solid black, five-pointed star. Or, scroll through the menu of Wingding symbols to find other types, such as stars with more points, a star with a 3-D background, a Star of David or a white star within a black circle.
7. Click 'Insert' at the bottom of the dialog box.
8. Click 'Close' at the bottom of the dialog box.
