How to Get the Connector Line to Link to the Object in MS Word 2007
1. Open a blank document in Microsoft Word 2007.
2. Click the 'Insert' tab. Under 'Illustrations,' click 'Shapes.' Select 'New Drawing Canvas' at the very bottom of the menu. This inserts a large bounded box in the page.
3. Click the 'Format' tab under 'Drawing Tools.'
4. Click the 'More' button (the small arrow in the corner) in the 'Insert Shapes' group.
5. Select a shape, such as a circle or square that you want to connect to a line.
6. Click inside the drawing canvas where you want to insert the shape. Click and drag to draw the shape. Select the shape to resize or reposition it.
7. Select the drawing canvas and click the 'Format' tab again. Click the 'More' button in the 'Insert Shapes' group.
8. Select a connector you want to use under 'Lines.'
9. Place your cursor on the edge of the shape you just created where you want to connect. You'll see a small blue circle appear on the shape on an available connection site.
10. Click the blue circle to connect the line to the object. The connection points display as red circles.
11. Drag and click elsewhere on the page to complete the line. To attach the connector to another shape, click another connection site on the second shape.
12. Select the shape to reposition it. Click the up or down arrow to move it slightly, and the attached line or connector will move with it.
