How to Open Word 6 Documents
1. Use Notepad to open the document. Notepad is a program that strips all of the formatting from a document and can open virtually any text document. Once the document is open, copy and paste the relevant text into a new Word file and save it.
2. Download the Open Office Suite (see Resources). Open Office features several programs that are capable of opening and editing Microsoft Office documents. As of November 2010, Open Office is free to use.
3. Use Open Office Word to open the Microsoft Word 6 document. Open Office Word is capable of opening any document created by any Microsoft Word program. Once the document is opened, click 'File' and 'Save As,' and change the extension of the file to .doc. This will save the file in a format that can be opened by most versions of Microsoft Word.
