How to Modify Table Structure in MS Word
1. Open the Microsoft Word document. Activate the “Tables and Borders” toolbar. For Microsoft Word 2003, click “File” and select “Toolbar,” then click “Tables and Borders.” For Microsoft Word 2007, click anywhere on the table. The tabs “Design” and “Layout” will appear on the toolbar. Click the “Design” tab to open the “Tables and Borders" toolbar.
2. Choose the "Table Style" and "Table Border" options. You can set the line style, the line weight and the border color and shading.
3. Click “Draw Borders” and select “Draw Table” in Microsoft Word 2007 to create your own borders for the table. For Microsoft Word 2003, select “Draw Table” from the “Tables and Borders" toolbar. A pencil appears when “Draw Table” is clicked. Click and drag the pencil to create borders of the table.
4. Click the “Layout” tab on the toolbar for Microsoft Office 2007 to modify the table’s rows and columns. For Microsoft Office 2003, use the “Tables and Borders” toolbar to modify the table’s rows and columns.
5. Select the appropriate options to add or delete rows or columns or to increase or decrease the cell size.
6. Click “Merge” in the “Layout” tab to split or merge cells or columns. Click on a cell in the table to activate the area where you would like to do a split or a merge, then choose the "Merge" option or the "Split" option.
