How to Fix Too Much Spacing When Justifying Text


Microsoft Word
1. Highlight the justified text in your Word document.
2. Select the 'Home' tab and click the 'Font' dialog box launcher in the bottom, right corner of the 'Font' group.
3. Click the 'Advanced' tab in the Font dialog box.
4. Go to the 'Character Spacing' section. Select 'Condensed' from the 'Spacing' drop-down list. For additional customization, enter a value for 'By.'
WordPerfect
5. Select the justified line of text in WordPerfect.
6. Select 'Format,' 'Typesetting' and 'Word/Letter Spacing' from the menu. The Word/Letter Spacing dialog box opens.
7. Go to the 'Word spacing' section to reduce the spacing between words or to the 'Letterspacing' section to reduce the spacing between letters.
8. Select 'Percent of optimal' and decrease the percentage from '100 percent' to a smaller value and then click 'OK.'
OpenOffice.org Writer
9. Highlight the justified text in OpenOffice.org Writer.
10. Select 'Format' and 'Character' from the menu. The Character dialog box opens. Click the 'Position' tab.
11. Change 'Default' to 'Condensed' from the 'Spacing' drop-down list. To customize the spacing, change the value for 'by' from '0.0pt' to a higher value, such as '0.5pt' and click 'OK.'
