How to Make Strikethrough Text on a Keyboard
Word and OpenOffice.org Write
1. Open Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.org Write by clicking on the start menu and clicking the application icon. Select the 'Tools' option on the top menu bar. Click on the keyboard option from the drop-down menu.
2. Choose 'Format' from the list of categories on the left side of the options box. Scroll through the list of options on the right side of the box. Click on the option 'Strikethrough.'
3. Click 'Press New Shortcut Key' and enter the key or combination of keys you would like to use, such as CTRL-5 or ALT-1, or any combination of keys that have not already been assigned. If you prefer, you can overwrite an existing assignment and turn it into a strikethrough shortcut by pressing the keys at this stage.
4. Write down the shortcut keys you choose until you memorize the new function. Click 'Assign' and click 'Close' twice to return to your document.
Mac OS X Shortcut
5. Open the keyboard and mouse settings in the system preferences. Click on 'Keyboard Shortcuts.' Click the small '+' sign in the preferences window.
6. Click the name of the program for which you want to create a strikethrough text keyboard shortcut. Enter the name of the menu item you want to execute when you use the shortcut. With word processing software, for example, select 'font' and 'strikethrough.'
7. Select the shortcut key or key combinations to execute the strikethrough text function. Click the 'Add' option. Open the program to verify your strikethrough text keyboard shortcut is displayed next to the font option in the menu bar.
